AWAKE Wild About Reading & Writing

Wild About Reading! Poster by Annette Cable Illustration courtesy of Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives

Welcome to "Wild About Reading & Writing"! This section of the AWAKE website contains examples of reading and writing about nature, as well as ideas for the classroom. It is designed for students and teachers, but others are welcome to use it.

  • Wild About Reading Annotated Bibliography of Children's Environmental Reading

  • Classroom Writing

In this section you will find examples of three kinds of nature writing done by Kentucky students. Reading and Writing works can be submitted for inclusion on this Web site. Please complete the steps outlined in How to Submit.

Student work is provided for examples and ideas of pieces that could be written in science classes - not necessarily to show proficient and distinguished work.

    Fun Things to Read

In this section you will find titles of books and poetry about nature and the environment. Educators, biologists, botanists, environmental scientists, and people who love to read about nature and the environment compiled this list. If you would like to submit a review of a book listed here, or a short annotation to be displayed with a title, please complete the steps outlined in How to Submit. Opinions and philosophies expressed in the titles listed here are not necessarily consistent with those of the partners of this Web site. Titles have been chosen for literary merit, to prompt discussion, or for educational value.
