Making an Effective Poster
Types of Posters
- Collage
- Use construction paper or magazine clippings to construct the images within the art piece.
- Drawn or Painted
- Use acrylic paint, water color, tempera paint, colored pencils, chalk, oil pastels, markers, or crayons to create images within the art piece.
Tips
Posters are meant to grab a viewers attention and hold it. This is done in several different ways:
- Use large bold lettering that can be seen from far away.
- Use very bold colors such as yellow, red, or orange, accompanied by lighter contrasting colors.
- Use illustrations that are somewhat exaggerated or unusual, and that display interesting situations.
- Keep the layout of the poster simple. This will help the viewer stay focused on what it is you are trying to say.
- Use all the important information pertaining to the purpose of the poster.
